Read This If You Can’t Stop Being Hard On Yourself

Let’s face it, there is always going to be someone trying to cut you down, but it shouldn’t be yourself.

I bet I know you.

You’re the girl who puts her blood, sweat, and tears into everything she does. You scrutinize your work harder than any teacher or peer would; you produce amazing work and feel like you still could have done better.

When things don’t turn out the way they were supposed to, you automatically think of five things you could have done to change the outcome, even if it wasn’t your fault to begin with.

You feel everything more than the average person.

It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Constantly thinking your best isn’t enough, that you’re letting people down.

There are days where your best feels like someone else’s worst.

You compare until you are blue in the face. You’re exhausted and you just want to throw up the white flag in surrender, except then you’d put yourself back into the cycle of bringing yourself down.

Take a deep breath — you can roll your eyes, but do it. Just let out all of the negative feelings that you harbor about yourself.

You’re only human. You aren’t and never will be perfect. I know that sounds harsh, but there is no such thing as a perfect person. We are all flawed in our own ways, but that doesn’t make you an inadequate person.

I know you worry that you don’t do enough things for your friends. You feel like you are the black sheep in the family. When it comes to relationships, you don’t think you are getting anything right, and you feel like the bottom barrel of employees.

Am I getting close yet?

Let me let you in on a little secret: You are not alone. On your worst days, I promise you there is someone else who feels 10 times worse and is suffering as well. There is another human out there ready to throw in the towel from exhaustion and crying.

Society doesn’t dictate how you should feel about yourself. Stop letting the outside world determine how you feel about yourself. There are 24 hours in one day — you can’t add to it and you can only cram so much into it.

Life isn’t easy and it isn’t always beautiful. If anyone is going to cut you a break, it is going to have to be yourself. Stop worrying about what anyone else thinks, stop focusing on all the things that went wrong, and realize that you are doing an amazing job.

Work on building yourself up instead of tearing yourself down. You can’t change the world yourself. Start believing in yourself, because you deserve it. Love yourself enough to realize that some things are out of your control.

Let’s face it, there is always going to be someone trying to cut you down, but it shouldn’t be yourself.

Love yourself enough to let the negativity go.

You deserve to smile.

You are stronger than you think.

You are not a failure.

You are worthy.

So cut yourself some slack. I know, easier said than done, but if you take a second to work on that instead of working on cutting yourself down, you’ll find that you are enough. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
