Your Presence Is Powerful Enough On Its Own

We all have something within us that will light up a room, but we can’t prove that if we don’t make our presence known.

Something that’s hard to find at times in life is self-confidence. You can be around so many talented people and feel inferior to them. You see how skilled and well-rounded others are and it makes you wonder how long it will take for you to get to where they are. It may even make you wonder if you have what it takes to emulate those people you think so highly of.

Honestly, you probably can’t mimic the skills that others have. We are all unique, and if we could all be carbon copies of each other, then life would be pretty boring. Our differences are what make us unique, interesting, and worth investing in. This idea that we need to have everything planned out and perform a perfect act is silly. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t victims of that ideology.

Part of what makes people stand out is there set of skills or their ability to perform them. The part that makes them stand out that is often overlooked is that they decided to show up and reveal their skills and abilities. We all have something within us that will light up a room, but we can’t prove that if we don’t make our presence known.

Showing up is half the battle. It’s so courageous to show up to a place where you know you’re not the most important person in the room. Your presence may not even be noticed by others. But there will be people that notice you, and that is an opportunity to show off what you’ve got or what you’ve been working on. Sometimes it’s hard to believe this, but people do want you to succeed. This isn’t just people you love. There are people who you haven’t meet that want you to be happy. They want you to be the best version of yourself. The only way to know that people will root for you is to show up.

I’m not going to pretend just showing up somewhere when your confidence isn’t at an all-time high is easy. To be honest, it’s one of the hardest things you might ever have to do. Having blind faith that everything will work out and you will be welcomed is bold. But it’s also brave.

Bad days and bad people come and go. That doesn’t change the fact that the memories stick with us. Our bad experiences in life take up too much space in our heads. It makes us believe that we shouldn’t even show up to social gatherings or have a fun night out with friends. The best revenge against doubt and fear is perseverance and faith. Being determined to keep going and having faith that things will work out is what makes your presence powerful. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
