Stop Glorifying A Relationship That Didn’t Deserve You

Stop glorifying a relationship that wasn’t even that good to begin with.

The truth is, they hurt you in ways no one has hurt you before. The truth is, you spent countless sleepless nights paralyzed by the thought of them. The truth is, you had never felt so broken, so empty. The truth is, you were drowning in your sheets, you just learned how to breathe underwater.

You see, your mind has this tendency of suppressing all the ugly in an attempt to protect you. But let’s face it, they did leave and they are not coming back, no matter how hard you try to chase them. You have been defending them for so long, blindsided by the idea of someone who is no longer here. But why are they nowhere to be seen? If they are not fighting for you, then why should you? I know you are exhausted, I know that deep down you are well aware that they are not the person you thought they were. I know that deep down you know you need to let them go. They never loved you enough, they never cared enough and the never will. Reminiscing on your happiest moments together won’t make up for the thousand tears you shed for them.

Please, do not forget about all of the reasons the relationship ended in the first place. It was not your fault, it never was. You deserve more than a simple, meaningless, “I’m sorry” or “I miss you” text. Too many words have been said without any actions to accompany them. Stop worrying, stop thinking that by letting them go you won’t be able to find someone else. Someday, you will get in return all the love you have given away and it will all make sense.

You hold a whole universe within you, do not let a fallen star create the illusion of a shattered galaxy. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
