A Note For You If You Didn’t Have A Memorable Holiday

Happiness comes and goes.

Many holidays occur at the end of the year. Holidays like Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s. That’s basically a holiday every 12 days. The ones in December are all clustered together within a week. Asking someone to have a great time on every holiday is unrealistic.

We have days where we don’t feel like ourselves. There are days where we have a lot of internal or external conflicts that get in the way of us being our best version of ourselves. We have so many years to enjoy the holidays. We don’t have to go out of our way to put on a happy face just because it is the holidays. They can be too much sometimes. They’re repetitive. The older you get, the less special these days feel. Sometimes it feels good to see other people bending over backwards for others while you just sit back and relax.

We all value the holidays differently. Some people think they’re awesome and will drop everything to celebrate them. While others will just view them as another day. It’s all a matter of perspective. If you are surrounded by people who love holidays or even overrate them, then you may feel a little guilty that you aren’t as invested and as energetic as they are. Don’t feel that way. Don’t let others make you feel that way. If you don’t value the holidays as much as others or as much as you used to, then that’s okay.

We all put different prices to literally everything in life. If you don’t feel like putting on your happy face just because it’s a holiday, that’s totally understandable. There isn’t a designated date that you have to be happy. Happiness comes and goes. It’s not like a watch that we can just snap onto our wrists. If you spent the holiday recharging from all the hard work you do on a daily basis, that’s okay. And it always will be. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
