To The Girl Who Runs From Her Problems

It’s going to be uncomfortable. But, you cannot run anymore.

She ran. She ran far, far away.

It was a temporary breath of fresh air. Running that is. She paused for a second. She realized that not all of her problems require a definite solution. She enjoyed this moment of peace. Her problems seemed to diminish the further she ran. She ran further. And further. Until she was lost. As her problems faded away, so did her soul. She began to lose pieces of herself.

She pressed her head against the grass and looked at the sky. She stared for hours. Staring. Thinking.

Sooner or later you need to face the consequences of your actions. You need to confront your problems.

It’s scary.

But, you have nothing to be afraid of.

Take it from the girl who would move to Alaska to avoid her problems:

Running away is a race you will never will.

Sure, it works at first- out of sight, out of mind.

But, reality always has a funny way of sneaking up on you. At first, the rush of running away is so liberating. In fact, it’s eye-opening.

Not all friendships can be restored. Make peace. But, do not spend time searching for an anti-venom serum to heal a toxic relationship. Surround yourself with positive people. People who motivate you. People who love you. People who cherish time spent with you. Those are the best type of people.

Every day you are changing. You are becoming a better version of yourself. Day by day, you grow and you learn. Each day you gain wisdom and knowledge and an enlightened perspective of the world around you. Living in an imaginary land of make-believe is dangerous. You cannot hide in a problem-free world. You cannot hide from reality.

Remember that childhood game. The floor is lava game. Oh god, I was awful at that game. You jump from pillow to pillow and hop from couch to couch to avoid the burning lava pit from underneath you. The game only lasted so long. Sooner or later, all the contestants fell into the lava.

You can’t escape reality. You can’t stand on a pillow forever. You have to face your problems head-on. Accept the consequences of your actions. Make amends with those you have hurt.

It’s going to be uncomfortable. But, you cannot run anymore.

Stop numbing the pain. Take the ice off the womb and let it heal. Take the ice off the womb and walk away from problems that you do not want to fix, problems that cannot be fixed.

She slowly stood up and walked back to reality. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
