Here’s Why Kylie Jenner Named Her Baby ‘Stormi’

Kylie's daughter's name came as a bit of a surprise to people, considering they were expecting a trademark "K" name or a variation of the word "butterfly," based on the clues fans had been given over social media. When Kylie and Travis revealed the name Stormi, fans didn't know what to think.

Let’s be honest here: Stormi Webster may be only three months old, but she was famous long before she was even born. The moment rumors began circulating about Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy, the Internet basically exploded with conspiracy theories and speculation about whether it was all just a publicity stunt. Naturally, when Kylie actually gave birth, Stormi was all anyone could talk about.

Still, Kylie’s daughter’s name came as a bit of a surprise to people, considering they were expecting a trademark “K” name or a variation of the word “butterfly,” based on the clues fans had been given over social media. When Kylie and Travis revealed the name Stormi, fans didn’t know what to think.

But Kylie Jenner finally opened up about the thought process behind her daughter’s name, and it’s… well… basically how you’d expect any baby to be named, I suppose. In an interview with her sister Kim, Kylie said:

“I really don’t know how we thought of Storm. Her dad insisted it was him, but I feel like it was me. And that kind of just stuck with us. And then I didn’t really like just Storm — I didn’t feel like that was her name. So then it became Stormi. And it just stuck.”

Kylie went on to suggest that Stormi actually chose her own name in the end.

“I feel like there were a lot of other names that I might have even liked better, to be honest, but I feel like Stormi picked her own name, like it was just her name.”

So I guess Stormi isn’t like her cousin True, who was named after her great-great-grandfather. But it’s kind of cute that Stormi kind of created her own name, just like, we’re sure, she’ll grow up to create her own legacy. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
