I’m Always On My Phone, And For That I Am Grateful

I am always on my phone because I am wrapped with love.

It’s the beginning of the morning and as I roll out of bed and start to get ready, my phone is already buzzing nonstop. I grab it and rush out the door to work, walking while looking at it on the cold Chicago streets.

“Don’t forget to look up and enjoy things,” says a man standing next to me at a crosswalk.

It’s lunch and I’m taking a break from work at my normal spot. My fingertips are glued to my phone as I sip on an iced coffee and ignore my food. The friendly waiter who knows me as a regular by now, comes over to fill my water.

“Do you have a crazy career, or something? You are always on your phone,” he says.

It’s that three o’clock feeling at work and I plug my phone in the charger. I put my headphones on to drown out everything else around me and focus on my work.

“Are you going to check that? Your phone is always going off,” laughs my coworker.

I’m getting ready for dinner, and I’m putting on my makeup. Before I can begin to my hair, I take a break and grab my cell and start laughing when I look at the screen. I grip onto it for another 20 minutes, realizing I am going to be late. I rush out the door, but not before my phone buzzes on the counter of my city apartment.

“Don’t forget your phone,” says my roommate.

I’m on my date and my phone is locked in my Gucci clutch. The evening is perfect, the food is amazing and the night is young. Buzzing beats keep coming from the tiny purse throughout the night.

“You seem really popular, if you need to get that, it’s okay with me,” he states.

It’s the end of the day and as I climb into my bed I take a look at my phone and a huge smile comes across my face.

I am always on my phone.

I am always on my phone because I am wrapped with love.

I’m always on my phone because I have relationships with people who live miles away and we can’t go a day without talking. I am always on my phone because I am someone’s go-to when they have a bad day. I am always on my phone because I have the greatest guy friends who check to make sure I’m having the best day ever.

I am always on my phone because I have a family who wants to know what I’m doing at every second of the day to make sure I am safe. I am always on my phone because I am someone’s life coach. I am always on the phone because I can give advice to a lost friend. I am always on my phone because I have friends with babies who know those photos and videos make my heart full.

I am always on my phone because a friend is sick and we are doing everything in our power to help her heal. I am always on the phone because I am in a group chat with inspiring and amazing women who help my creativity constantly flow. I am always on my phone because I am letting someone know they deserve the world when they feel like they don’t. I am always on the phone because stupid memes or Bravo talks can make you burst out laughing.

I am always on my phone because I am always loved – and for that, I am grateful. TC mark
