I can tell you one thing for sure — there will never be a practical joke as wonderful and emotional as this one.

Losing someone you love is one of the hardest things you can go through, period. And while absolutely nothing can truly make it better, it does help when they have a sense of humor about it. They say laughter is the best medicine, and maybe they’re right.

Phedre Nicol battled cancer for five years before she eventually passed away from the disease. In 2013, at the age of 69, Phedre told her husband, Nigel, that if she were to pass away, it was incredibly important that he continue watering the plants in their South African home. And of course, being the loving husband that he was, Nigel did exactly what she asked for 5 years after her death. Now that’s love.

However, Nigel noticed something incredibly strange about the plants as he prepared to move into a retirement home. The plants were still in excellent shape, so he decided to take them with him. Except when he began to collect them, he realized why the plants still looked so perfect…

Yep, that’s right — Phedre’s last dying wish was literally a giant prank on her husband. Something about that is just so, so beautiful to me.

I’m also glad that Nigel could fully appreciate the prank for what it was instead of being upset or annoyed. Seriously, just look at him.
