17 People Describe Having Nightmares That Sound Like Horror Movies
"All of a sudden, a giant monstrous hand jumped out, grabbed the boy, and took him in to the lake."
1. My brother was gone and a tombstone was in his place.
“I was by a lake, it was storming and on the other side was my brother standing under a tree. When I walked around the lake the closer I got to the tree the more it rained and when I made it my brother, he was gone and instead was his headstone. No blood and gore, no clowns or falling just loss.”
2. The familiar mushroom cloud of a nuke rose out at the sea horizon and the first shockwave scorched the land.
“I was at a beach with the girlfriend I had at the time. Loved ones and family too. The familiar mushroom cloud of a nuke rose out at the sea horizon and the first shockwave scorched the land but we were unharmed. The next was a tsunami and I remember thinking I was gonna run into it because I didn’t want to stand around and die like a coward. And all turned white.”
3. All of a sudden, a giant monstrous hand jumped out, grabbed the boy, and took him in to the lake.
“I was at a lake, in the winter. The dream was in the third point of view. There was a family, a mother, and two children, a five-year-old boy and a teenage girl. The boy started walking towards the lake and looking into it, everyone else was unaware of the boy. All of a sudden, a giant monstrous hand jumped out, grabbed the boy, and took him in to the lake. The family ran up to the lake screaming the son’s name over and over again. The dream skipped to a what seemed to be a video recording in someplace very dark. You could hear a girl whispering ‘I can’t breathe,’ while sobbing. The dream skipped to the boy inside a cave next to a dark figure snarling. The boy asked ‘When can I leave?’ The figure replied ‘Why would you want to leave?’ After that, I woke panicking, I couldn’t sleep that well the next night.”
4. I was running across a frozen-over ocean filled with human corpses.
“I was running across a frozen-over ocean filled with human corpses. I suddenly heard a blood-curdling shriek, turned around, and found myself face to face with a skeletal, flaming llama. A LLAMA. It walked slowly up to me (somehow not melting the ice around it), and then whispered in my ear a single sentence: ‘TIME TO JOIN THE OTHERS.’ The worst part? It had Morgan Freeman’s voice.”
5. Tiny holes would start appearing in my face until I looked like a honeycomb. I’d try to scream.
“I had a recurring dream when I was younger that I was looking at my face in the mirror, and tiny holes would start appearing in it until I looked like a honeycomb. I’d try to scream, and blood would start pouring out of the holes. I knew I was dying and there was nothing anyone could do for me.
That dream is how I know trypophobia is a real thing, despite many Internet people and at least two psych professors telling me it’s not. I had it before I ever heard the word.”
6. I was getting chased up hundreds of flights of stairs by a giant axe-wielding man.
“I was getting chased up hundreds of flights of stairs by a giant axe-wielding man. Finally got cornered on the top floor and I woke myself up with my real-life screams as the axe murderer approached.”
7. From the fog/smoke rises a never-ending stream of witches on brooms going upward in a circle.
“The only nightmare I remember is from when I was 5 (I’m 32 now). I am in a square room, as far as I can tell I’m standing on a ledge and there is no floor but there is a ton of fog and smoke rising. Across the room is a huge double door with a red light flashing above it. From the fog/smoke rises a never-ending stream of witches on brooms going upward in a circle, there is no ceiling just a white light they disappear into. I have no place to go, other than to jump into the fog so all I do is scream. Eventually I wake up.”
8. His brain fell out of his head like an egg yolk and started sizzling on the heater.
“When I was five I had a dream that I was holding my baby cousin, while my mom put her coat on. I dropped the baby onto the baseboard heater and his head broke open on the metal edge. His brain fell out of his head like an egg yolk and started sizzling on the heater. I woke up screaming and crying, and have had issues with holding babies ever since.”
9. I turn back to see my house explode as a meteor hits it.
“I walked out of my house across the street to visit my grandparents, I look up at the sky and see streaks of meteors; I then turn back to see my house explode as a meteor hits it.”
10. I started cooking a baby, and it was all cut up. And then its head started screaming.
“I started cooking a baby, and it was all cut up. And then its head started screaming, and the baby, as I was still without a care in the world, cooking it, started to reassemble. The thing crawled out of the oven and bit off my throat and I bled out, and then woke up.”
11. There were these half-biological/half-robotic three-legged beings walking around and eating the bodies.
“I was witnessing a post-apocalyptic scene that was entirely anime-style cell shaded. There were ruins of a city, and among the ruins were piles and piles of dead bodies were maybe at least 2-3,000 bodies per pile. There were these half-biological/half-robotic three-legged beings walking around and eating the bodies. I distinctly remember hearing them chew them down, bones breaking their mouths and swallowing the pieces—and a very distinct creepy music playing though it all. After eating a few bodies, they would empty themselves of some fluid, that seemed like the byproducts of the bodies being “digested”. Looking back on it now it just seems weird, but it felt downright terrifying witnessing it.”
12. I dreamt our house filled up with bugs and they ate my mom’s head.
“I dreamt our house filled up with bugs and they ate my mom’s head. I was five. The next morning, I looked at my mom from around a corner because I was scared she wouldn’t have her head. I have bad dreams sometimes but I forget them. Never forgot that one though.”
13. I turned page after page of dead babies until I found her, laying there blue and cold.
“I had a nightmare about my niece. She was an infant at the time, and I was her caretaker. In the dream, she had died. For some reason, dead babies were kept in a sort of book. You’d turn a page, and a dead baby would appear laying on the open book. I turned page after page of dead babies until I found her, laying there blue and cold. I picked her up in my arms and took her to a pool of water. I think I was going to bury her there. So there I was, carrying my dead niece in my arms to her final resting place, after having seen many other dead infants…
It was horrendous, not just because all the babies were dead, but because she was dead and I loved her so immensely and I woke up with the strongest grief I have ever experienced.”
14. With every slice of my wrist, no blood comes out.
“Fell asleep on a normal night, started dreaming about a hot guy in a DeLorean (I apologize for spelling that wrong, if I did). So hot guy wins my heart. Turns out to be the Devil. He tells me in dreaming and that he’s here to tell me I’m going to bear his child here on earth. I’m then forced to do things and have no control over anything, he tells me that I will have no choice in this matter and this dream is showing me what will be in the future and how to prepare. He tells me to look down and as I do I see myself as 8 months pregnant. I start crying because this dream is very realistic and I believe it all to be truth. I ask to take a shower because time was flying by and it was a week since I’ve been stuck with him and he gives me permission. I’m the shower I attempt any way I can to kill myself and he shows up laughing because with every slice of my wrist no blood comes out. He takes me out of the shower and I’m no longer pregnant. He then tears my stomach open and rips my intestines and other organs out but I don’t feel anything. He tells me this is my fate if I don’t follow through that I will be tortured forever. Then I’m suddenly back to normal and no tear in my stomach. I look up to him staring me in the eye saying, ‘You’re going to wake up now. Remember. The date he will be born is August 23.’ I then wake up crying, and have a feeling of something moving in my stomach….”
15. I woke up in the middle of the night in cold sweat and looked up to see a gargoyle-like demon hanging from my fan.
“I woke up in the middle of the night in cold sweat and looked up to see a gargoyle-like demon hanging from my fan. It had blood red eyes and I could see its fleshy wings. It just hung there staring at me, and I was shitting bricks, unable to move.”
16. I see someone holding an axe, hacking up my dad.
“I’m walking with my father up a sidewalk next to a low wall. Everything is extremely bleak and foggy (think Silent Hill). I’m riding on a tricycle, also. My dad walks up some stairs, over the low wall, and he enters a house that’s about 20 yards away from me. The house has a garage on the left side, and the door is open to it. I see shadows on one side of the garage wall. I see someone holding an axe, hacking up my dad. I start crying hysterically, and ride my tricycle into the fog. I can’t see anything for two feet around me. I hear giggling coming from the direction of the house, and light footsteps, almost like a dog’s footsteps. The road seems to go on forever in all directions, and I hear the voice and feet coming closer. My dream ends EXACTLY as I feel a hand on my shoulder. I woke up screaming for my dad. Creepiest shit.”
17. The walls started closing in and squeezing me.
“A few months ago, I had a fever and that’s when it happened. Usually, even if I have nightmares, it doesn’t affect me whatsoever, so I think it was because of the state my body was in and me being exhausted as fuck, this dream I had affected me so.
Basically, the dream wasn’t long, or at least I don’t remember everything that happened there. First, it started with me being in a… well, strange place. There were no walls, no ceiling, no sky, just the floor and a few randomly colored balls. Then the balls grew and grew and grew. They kept squeezing me. Then they got smaller back, I was relieved. What happened next was that my body parts started growing out of control (for example, only my arm started growing, making me feel scared) and getting back to the normal state. But that wasn’t such a bother, what happened next was what had a really big effect on me. In my dream, I suddenly woke up on the couch (where I was originally sleeping). I stood up and went to the front door and locked them. And then I got (for some reason, I still don’t understand why) scared for my life. I was fully convinced that my life was over now, that I couldn’t reverse what I had done (in my dreams, this appeared with the door knob and the lock disappearing, only door remaining). The walls started closing in and squeezing me, activating my claustrophobia.
Next thing, I woke up, sweaty as fuck. I almost ran to the bathroom, looked at myself in the mirror, breathing as these were my last few breaths in my life, saying out loud to myself: ‘I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die, I want to live, I WANT TO LIVE!!’ After I said all this, it suddenly struck me. This was a dream. Once before in my life, I had an almost-death-experience and what I felt back then, I also felt when I woke up, up until I realized that this was all a dream.
Basically, that’s it. The dream itself wasn’t all that scary and whatnot, but I decided that it belonged in this post just because of the effect it had on me after I woke up. Yeah.”
