Why Holding On To Bitterness Will Only Hurt You
Focusing on what could have been, how things should have been, and how much someone might have hurt you, will NEVER change the past. This type of mindset will only keep you there.

Why is it so hard to let go of past hurt? What keeps us on this never-ending merry-go round of feeling sorry for ourselves and wishing ill upon those who have wronged us?
Bitterness is described as anger and resentment at being treated unfairly, and it is a very powerful emotion. If left unchecked, it can cause more damage than you could ever imagine, and the worst part is, the most damage will be done to you, not the one who hurt you.
We all have a reason to be angry at someone at some point in our lives. It’s a natural human emotion and one that is very hard to correct. Maybe you are suffering from a break up you feel you never got closure from. One of your closest friends betrayed you, or you can’t be in the room with your family for more than five minutes without becoming enraged. Bitterness is choosing to stay right where you are in that anger, stuck endlessly in that cycle of hurt and disappointment.
It is easier to just let go. Let go of anything that is holding you back from finding inner peace. Clinging tightly to bitterness will only end up slowing your progress and stop you from moving forward and growing into who you were meant to become. Bitterness will literally eat away at your soul, cloud your judgment, and turn you into someone you don’t recognize anymore, someone you wouldn’t want to know.
Don’t become bitter, just become better!
Focusing on what could have been, how things should have been, and how much someone might have hurt you, will NEVER change the past. This type of mindset will only keep you there.
Give yourself enough room to let go of bitterness and hurt. Make peace with yourself and with those who have harmed you. Give plenty of grace to yourself and others and realize none of us are perfect. Holding on to the things that caused you pain will never help you nor the one who wronged you receive healing and peace. We all need a little extra grace and understanding every single day of our lives. Letting go of all bitterness in your heart is the perfect way to start this process.
