1. Start the day with a cup of hot lemon water.

Add a chunk of lemon to boiling water and drink it first thing in the morning before anything else passes your lips.

The lemon is detoxifying and the warm water wakes up your digestive system slowly and carefully. Starting your day with this drink cleanses your gut from the toxins of the previous day.

2. End the day with a cup of warm milk and cacao.

Add two teaspoons of raw cacao powder to hot milk and stir well. It is so warming and soothing, and a lovely way to comfort yourself at the end of a long day.

The cacao is excellent for your circulation and heart health. Try it with almond milk and some cinnamon or add some agave syrup for sweetness if needed.

3. Make time for a good breakfast.

We all know it’s the most important meal of the day. Set aside the time for a big bowl of porridge and fresh fruit or if you prefer to have your breakfast on the go, you can prepare a smoothie the night before, leave it in the fridge and all you need to do in the morning is blend and go.

4. Soothe aching muscles with an Epsom salt and lavender bath.

Long day at work or tough workout at the gym? Soothe your muscles in an Epsom bath – add two cups of salts to hot water and some dried lavender buds for a relaxing sent. The salts detoxify your muscles and leave your skin smooth and soft.

5. Have a good bedtime routine.

Set a bedtime but don’t be too strict on yourself – some studies have shown that 10:37 pm is the perfect time to fall asleep. At a minimum of 30 minutes before you plan to hit the hay, put down your smart phone and turn off the TV.

Do some light yoga stretches, wash your face and get into your pajamas. Light a scented candle and read a few chapters of a book to help ease you into slumber. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
