You’re Supposed To Be Selfish In Your 20s

Be selfish about your current job. Take advantage of your skills and assets, and quit the job that is making you miserable. Do not stay out of comfort or just because you think it's the right thing for you to do. Be selfish in what job you apply for and what jobs you accept.

You have one life to live. So be selfish in the choices that you make and in your actions. Live for you, not anyone else.

1. Be selfish about the people you hang out with.

You are an adult now. Treat yourself with the respect that you deserve and only make friendships with people who love you for you, and wouldn’t want to change you for the world. You are the company you keep.

2. Be selfish about the people you surround yourself with.

Let the people that you surround yourself with lift you up, instead of tear you down. You should always make sure that your friends are true to you and that you would trust them with your life. It’s time to let go of the toxic and negative friendships you have kept only out of comfort.

3. Be selfish about your significant other.

Please, please do not date someone just to date anyone. Be selfish about your standards and don’t settle for anything or anyone less. You deserve to be adored and to be unconditionally loved. Anything less than that is a waste of your time.

4. Be selfish about your career path.

You only have one life to live. So, follow your passion. Follow your dreams. And don’t let other people or things stop you from pursuing what’s in your heart. Do not choose the career path that gives you the most money or the most success, choose the career path that brings you the most joy.

5. Be selfish about your current job.

If you don’t like your job, than you are wasting precious time where you could be smiling instead of staying stagnant. Take advantage of your skills and assets, and quit the job that is making you miserable. Do not stay out of comfort or just because you think it’s the right thing for you to do. Be selfish in what job you apply for and what jobs you accept.

6. Be selfish about your childhood friendships.

If your old friendships are only being kept out of normality or comfort, they aren’t doing anything to better you or your life. Let go of friendships you only keep because of history if you aren’t getting anything out of it.

7. Be selfish about your ‘me’ time.

Take time for yourself and only yourself. Take much needed time for self-care and self reflection. Don’t let the world overwhelm with it’s fast pace. Be selfish about knowing when to pause and when to just stop.

8. Be selfish about your mental health.

If you feel like your mental health is suffering from your job, from work, from your personal life, get the help that you need. It’s not going to get any better by you ignoring it or bottling it up. Your mental health is important and you need to be selfish about your needs.

9. Be selfish about your physical health.

Just like your mental health, your physical health is just as important and vital for you to live your best life. Treat your body with love and nutrients. Exercise even if it’s just taking fifteen minutes out of your day. Spend time focusing on your body and be proud of all that it can do for you.

10. Be selfish about taking time to travel.

You don’t always have to be full speed ahead. Take time off. Take a vacation everyone once in a while. Take the time that you need to recover and to be reborn. Get re-inspired with the world and within yourself.

11. Be selfish with your own voice.

When you have something to say, say it. Don’t hide in fear of being rejected. You have a voice and you need to use it. Don’t let people step over you again and again. Let your voice rise and shine out of the ashes. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
