Ladies, Stop Waiting Around For The Guy Who Doesn’t Care

Let go of the guy who isn't texting back. Let go of the guy who doesn't show up when he says he will. Let go of the guy who is wishy-washy about his feelings.

I should start by saying I get it. I was there too many times to count. Before my current relationship, I wasted time on men who clearly did not care about me. I wouldn’t speak on this if I didn’t know exactly how it felt.

So, my question is: why? Why do we do this to ourselves?

We sit around hoping men who never seem that invested to begin with will magically change their minds.

Have we just seen too many romantic comedies and let fictional stories permeate our brains? Do we really think, somehow, we’ll be different? Are we accepting less than we deserve? Or maybe my fear, are we accepting what we think we deserve?

A painful truth we all (regardless of gender) must come to terms with is that people very rarely change. And when they do change, it’s because THEY want to. You can’t facilitate that sort of thing.

I know it’s hard. There’s some naive part of us that keeps hoping. We rationalize things we shouldn’t when we love someone. We leave the door open, even though we know it’s a bad idea.

But life is so short. It’s unpredictable and we never know what tomorrow may bring. So, don’t waste it. Don’t waste your tears on someone who isn’t there for you when you’re sad. Don’t let your self-esteem be influenced by someone who is meant to just be a temporary encounter.

Let go of the guy who isn’t texting back. Let go of the guy who doesn’t show up when he says he will. Let go of the guy who is wishy-washy about his feelings. Let go of the guy who doesn’t see how amazing you are.

Trust me, waiting is not good for you. Waiting will break your heart over and over.

There’s someone else, someone out there who won’t force you to wait. Focus on yourself. Focus on the things that bring you joy and happiness. And when it’s right, that person will show up. And you’ll wonder why you ever wasted your time before. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
