Why You Need To Run Away

Take a bus, take a train, take your car, just choose a mode of transport that takes you on a journey you have never been before.

I hope for once you choose yourself and run away. Run away from all your problems, from everything that stresses you out, from the situation that breaks you. Even from the person you can’t decide you are in love with. It doesn’t have to be forever. It just has to be for a few days. Don’t go to a place which you know well. Go somewhere no one knows you. Where everyone is a stranger who minds their own business.

Take a bus, take a train, take your car, just choose a mode of transport that takes you on a journey you have never been before. Go to a place you have never seen before and enjoy the journey as much as you will the destination.

Maybe the place you run away to is a sea side resort where the sun shines across the beautiful blue water and beckons you to take a swim. Maybe you watch a couple deeply in love walking along the beach, or a child playing with his dog in the water and understand that life is truly supposed to be just that simple. Maybe the moment you feel the warm sand under your toes you forget every single one of your worries, and remember your purpose – what you have always imagined your life’s journey to be.

Maybe the place you run away to is a massive city you have always wanted to visit, full of smoke filled bars and secret clubs where the best but most unknown music plays. Maybe you will find a stranger with kind eyes and a dangerous smile who will draw you into a conversation about the universe and where it intends for us to understand with all it’s hidden ways. Maybe you’ll stay there till the wee hours of morning when it’s just you two and the bar tender left. Or maybe you’ll take a walk together in a city before dawn, just as the sun’s rays are about to bathe every building with it’s light. When everyone is asleep and it feels like the two of you are the only people alive in the world.

Maybe the place you run away to is a quiet village in the mountains. Where the people are so simple that twitter and facebook are a distant thought, as an internet connection is rare. Maybe you find yourself on a walk through this quiet place, and see an old couple simply enjoying each other’s company, smiling like children, although you can tell they have been together for years. Maybe you find yourself yearning for a love like that and understand that your on again off again relationship is not a forever love. Or maybe you recognize that the person you see as your best friend is really the one you should have been with all along.

So please, for the sake of your soul and spirit, run away. Run away for a little while, all by yourself and spend some time in a place you do not know. Take nothing but an open heart, a willingness to learn more about your spirit and the knowledge that you’re finally taking a chance on yourself. Home will always be here for you.

But for now, just once in your life, take a chance on yourself… and run away. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
