5 Overused Quotes That We All Need To Put to Rest Immediately
Remember back in the Myspace days, when attention-seeking girls (including myself) would supply a completely irrelevant quote to go along with their duck-face and peace sign selfie? Unfortunately, while the selfies may have somewhat progressed since then, the intellectuality hasn’t. Here are 5 quotes that should really cease from existing on social media:
1. “If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.”
Congratulations, you just blatantly identified yourself as a psycho. Honestly, I personally believe that girls use this quote to justify their craziness. They fully take advantage of the opportunity to shift the blame to their boyfriend for “not caring enough about me to push through the difficult times.” Here’s the thing. These aren’t actually “difficult” times – you’re just being batsh*t insane, and are using quotes written by 15-year-old girls on Tumblr to convince yourself that your behavior is normal.
2. “Dance like nobody is watching, love like you’ve never been hurt.”
Oh honey, people are most definitely watching. Believe me – a whopping 86 people have viewed your best friend’s Snapchat story of you pole dancing to “Get Low”. The second part of the quote is what really gets me though. Why would anyone willingly love like they’ve never been hurt? How about doing the complete opposite? When you take what you have learned from bad experiences and apply them to future situations, this can at least somewhat help lessen the chance of getting hurt again. (Obviously, no guarantees.)
3. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
No offense to Dr. Seuss here, but come on. To me, this quote is equivalent to when others give you the stellar advice of “just stop thinking about it” when you are worried about something. Oh, your boyfriend cheated on you? Well, you should probably crack a god damn smile because even though your whole relationship was a lie, at least you went to some good restaurants along the way.
4. “Nothing is impossible – the word itself says ‘I’m possible!’
Don’t get me wrong – I’m all about pushing past your fears to reach your goals, and not automatically giving up when a roadblock presents itself. However, when I think of this quote, all I think of is a drunk guy proudly reciting it right before he jumps off a roof or something. It’s cheesy, it’s overused, and the phrase “I’m possible” makes you sound borderline unintelligent.
5. “It’s not the number of breaths we take, but the number of moments that take our breath away.”
No explanation necessary.
