1. You’re fatigued all day and active all night. You seem to get all the energy you need when you don’t need it. The morning is the worst time of the day for you because your body is still trying to comprehend what the hell is happening to it and your mind is in a million different places – this fatigue suddenly disappears when it’s night time and it’s actually time to sleep.
2. Clocks and alarms give you anxiety. Time goes by so fast when you have insomnia that some days you’re not even sure if you even slept at all or you spent the night looking at the time calculating how many hours are left for you to get up and how many hours of sleep you can get.
3. When you finally fall asleep, it’s always 10 minutes before the alarm goes off, and you start wondering why the universe really hates you like that.
4. Anything will wake you up. Birds, people yelling, the sun or anything thing that just makes a sound will wake you up. Even on the days you sleep, you can’t stay asleep.
5. You become your genius self before bed. As soon as you rest your head on the pillow, you start thinking about all the great things you can do and how you can change the world. You start thinking of unrealistic scenarios and ideas for new projects that will serve humanity and make the world a better place.
6. You also become your own worst enemy before bed. If you’re not thinking about changing the world, you’re thinking about the latest comment your boss said and what he/she really meant, or why your friend didn’t call you back and you replay the day in your head thinking of ways you could’ve said or done thing better.
7. Stalking is another alternative to sleep. When you can’t sleep, you start doing some intensive stalking on the person you like, your best friend, your favorite celebrity, your boss – any stalking during night time is guaranteed to get you juicy information.
8. Coffee is your life saver. You don’t really understand morning people; actually you don’t understand anything in the morning unless you’ve had at least two cups of coffee and then you can start participating in life again.
9. Sleepovers are not meant for you. Sleepovers mean that everyone will sleep and you will just stay up awkwardly not knowing what to do, where to go or who to talk to so you will just stare at the wall or the ceiling because if you get up, you might wake your friends up.
10. You’ve considered taking sleeping pills. You’re starting to believe that you can’t naturally cure your insomnia so you seriously start thinking of taking sleeping pills instead of counting sheep.
11. You’re always told that you look tired. It’s like your trademark. From the way you look to the dark circles under your eyes, everyone and their mother always tell you that you look tired and you should get some sleep.
12. You can’t sign up for any activity before 8 am. So long boot camps and early yoga classes. It must be nice on the other side of the world.
13. Weekends are the only reason you’re alive. You get to finally sleep even though not consistently but you make up the hours somehow and then you get to feel what it’s like to be like other humans on week days.
14. You think about your bed a lot. You dream about sleeping during the day and all you can think of is the comfort of your bed as you try to resist the urge to take a power nap.
15. You convince yourself that there’s hope. When you finally have a good night’s sleep, you throw yourself a mini party and you think that you’ve finally figured out a way to cure your insomnia only to realize the same night that it’s not going anywhere and you’re wide awake at night again.
