Most People Are Mediocre; Don’t Listen To Them If You Want To Succeed

You need to surround yourself with the people who encourage and support you to be the best version of yourself.

It’s already been three months since I wrote a Happy New Year letter to my readers – can you believe it?! Time flies fast, really fast and I haven’t done anything much at all, well, except for aging. Speaking of which, I’ll be 22 this July. Omg, 22?! I mean… I was like 17 yesterday. But no, it’s already been 5 fricking years.

When I was 17, I kept thinking that by 22 I would be this awesome badass grown-up woman who has everything together. In reality? Well, I do have a few things together but definitely not everything! I still have my fucked up moments. I still feel like a little girl when I go out there and meet the legit grown-ups who (seemingly) take really good care of themselves.

I still struggle to take good care of myself… Okay, I admit it — I have a very unhealthy relationship with food, and I haven’t been to the gym lately. This needs to be changed. You should too, if you haven’t already done so. Go to the gym, work out, eat healthily, dress well and feel great about yourself!

I know it’s hard to get motivated everyday especially when you feel like you don’t need to make any dramatic change and it’s comfortable this way. But you know what, if you and me, if we keep thinking that way, we will forever live a life of mediocrity.

Yes, I’m not overweight but I don’t have my dream body either! Yes, I’m not broke but I’m nowhere as successful as I would like to be yet. If I don’t push myself, I will never get to where I want to be and for the rest of my life, I will keep feeling like things could be better. It’s true for any of us that things could be better and things WILL get better if we actually put in the work, you know.

Don’t listen to those people who tell you that you’re good like now, or don’t work too hard, or it’s okay to be like this, that’s what everyone else does — chances are high that those people are the same people who secretly hate their body and tell themselves everyday that they will diet tomorrow, the same people who have never done anything excellent in their life, the same people who are afraid that you might actually become excellent and that would intimidate them and force them to face the reality of their mediocrity.

Guilty as charged, I’ve definitely been one of those people before. I’ve made myself comfortable. I’ve chosen the easy way. But then I realize I don’t want comfortable, and I can definitely do better than easy. I’m free to choose how to spend my time and what to do with my life and I DO want to do something amazing, really amazing, NOT to live a comfortable, easy, uneventful life that amounts to nothing.

I want to be inspiring and make changes and be the best I can. I believe I have potential. And I’m sure you do too!

You need to surround yourself with the people who encourage and support you to be the best version of yourself.

Just don’t listen to small-thinking, self-satisfied people.

They can be great friends, great families but they’re not the right people to take advice from if you want to succeed. And there are many, many of them around doesn’t mean that’s what you’re supposed to be. Don’t succumb to it. You can be one of the great people who makes the rest realize they can be great too!

Listen, you can do it. You can achieve whatever goals you set for yourself. You can be that person you’ve always wanted to become. It might feel hard right now, hard at first. But as long as you still want changes, still want to do something amazing, still commit to greatness and make effort in your daily life, you’re doing well.

All that being said, don’t put negative pressure on yourself. Don’t feel like you have to make it happen now and if not you’re a failure. No, you’re not a failure. You have time ahead. This is your own journey. Choose a way of life and have fun with it. Go all in with it.

For me, I know this is the path I want. I want to turn my life into a great story. And in 10 years’ time, I want to look back and say, hey I’ve done some pretty amazing stuff, or like at 22, I’ve actually achieved that dream bikini bod for once. Even if I fail, at least I could tell myself I’ve tried.

So you know, whatever it is, just do it. Just f*cking do it.

Start now. Change your life. LIVE your goddamn life! Go out of your comfort zone. Make stupid mistakes and learn from it. Fall in love. Fall out of love. Ask the hottest person on your Facebook friend list out. Laugh. Laugh more. Make new friends. Say goodbyes to toxic people. Be present. Take interest in someone. Pay compliments. Try to make someone laugh. Give others a chance to make you laugh too. Love yourself. Love yourself harder. Know that it’s all okay. Everything is okay!Thought Catalog Logo Mark
