Investing in your future isn’t always financially based. We’re told that if you pay for something, you’ll receive something of equal or greater value in return. However, I’m of the mindset that no matter what your financial situation is, you can always invest in yourself without paying a dime. Here are four non-financial investments you must make in order to have a wildly successful future.

1. Create Experiences

Growing up in America means that we typically have an educational experience that is very uniform up until 12th grade. Most people go off to college where they prepare you for the real world. However, with all of the formal education you receive, you are never fully prepared for all that life throws at you. The best education comes by experiencing what you’ve learned firsthand. Formal education gives you a best-case, “real world”, scenario that if you do “A” (and all of the stars align), then “B” will happen. Let’s be real, that sh*t never adds up! Education through experience by trying and failing will be your best teacher and one of your most worthy investments.

2. Find The Right People

Every person in my life who I keep close has a purpose. Find people who push you to be the best version of yourself and who don’t limit you. You should have three different types of people in your corner at all times: 1. The Dreamer. 2. The Realist. 3. The Devil’s Advocate. The dreamer will help you see the big picture and realize your potential. The realist will take that dream and break it down into detailed action items. The devil’s advocate will point out potential roadblocks but also provide alternative routes to reach your destination. If all of these people have your best interest at heart, it’s a recipe for greatness.

3. Get Centered Spiritually

Have faith. Plain and simple. Investing in some personal time with God is essential. It adds true meaning to your life because you see how you are a part of a bigger plan. This realization pushes most people to be of service to others instead of viewing life through a narrow, selfish microscope. Take time out of your day to do a devotional or some type of spiritual reading that changes your outlook on life.

4. Prioritize Your Health

As the years go on, responsibility and stress seem to increase while our metabolism decreases. Get active and keep your diet in check so you can have as much energy as possible to make an impact on your sphere of influence. Health has as much of an effect on you as it does on others. Some of us were lucky enough to ride bikes with our parents and play catch growing up. Others had parents who were too overweight and lethargic, so they missed out on active family bonding. Keeping your health in check allows you to live a longer and more fulfilled life than ever before.

At the beginning of each day you have the option of settling for average or living life to the fullest. Investing in yourself fully equips you to live life to the fullest and find your greatness. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
