This Is The Superpower That Will Help You Thrive In Adulthood (And It’s Been Right In Front Of You All Along)
So much of our internal dialogue is dominated by conflicting and competing voices that are all clamoring for our attention.
The more we learn to follow our intuition, the more we’ll realize that it’s totally trustworthy. The whole concept of intuition might seem mystical and otherworldly, but it’s actually a very practical and powerful tool for navigating through life – like a GPS for the soul.
So much of our internal dialogue is dominated by conflicting and competing voices that are all clamoring for our attention. But our intuition is quiet. It’s still. We all have that wisdom inside of us whether we’re aware of it or not, and it’s always speaking to us. It’s simply a matter of paying attention to it. Here is why your intuition is your strongest tool.
1. It’s never wrong.
Our bodies always know the truth. If we’re paying attention we’ll notice that our bodies have an incredible capacity for for sensing what is either beneficial or negative for us. The tricky part is that it’s based on feeling, not in an emotional sense but in an intuitive sense. It’s also not subject to the dictates of the rational mind that needs reasons and explanations for everything, which is why we often distrust it.
But when we choose to pay attention and act on our intuition, we find that it never steers us in the wrong direction. We’ve all gone against this voice before and we’ve all probably paid the price. Our feelings aren’t a mistake, and by learning to trust them we learn genuine self-confidence.
2. It protects us.
Because we weren’t born with claws or sharp teeth to defend ourselves, our first line of defense lies in our intuitive capacity to know something without the need for conscious reasoning. It’s the vague notion that something is just not right. It’s the subtle signs our body is sending us – the pit in our stomach, the tightness in our chest – that a person or situation just isn’t right for us. These sublte feelings are really easy to dismiss, so it takes a certain degree of self honesty to acknowledge them. But if we’re willing to move with it we’ll discover that our gut instinct always has our best interests at heart.
3. It makes us more successful.
Due to the collective conditioning that we’ve all naturally inherited from both society and our parents, it can difficult to navigate our professional lives with clarity. We feel the pressure to pick a job we may not enjoy because we believe it will provide abundantly for us. With all of the financial and societal pressures, it can easy to lose perspective and forget what is actually important to us.
Our intuition, on the other hand, is an unbiased representative of our soul. It’s the voice that embodies our truest and most authentic inclinations; it is not swayed by societal pressures or the status quo. Our intuition is a gift that, if we choose to accept and follow it, will help us manifest the life that’s truly meant for us.
As Steve Jobs said, “Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
4. Intuition makes our dating lives easier.
Our gut instinct is our intrinsic bullshit meter, and it’s only a matter of being willing to listen to it that can make a huge difference in our relationships and our dating lives. We’ve all been there – we’re hitting it off with some exceedingly attractive person at the coffee shop or the bar and everything is going great except—something feels off. Or we’re trying to find a way to convince ourselves, despite the fact that we have absolutely nothing in common with a person we’ve been “seeing,” that we’re a perfect match because we’d really rather not be alone. We’ll conjure up a thousand ideas for how it could work, even though they always take so long to text us back.
But really we’re rationalizing to make people seem like they’re in our best interest. It’s our intuition that sees right through the appearance of things. We know in our gut when we’ve met the right person because it’s obvious; there’s no need for convincing or forcing. Our intuitive faculty is the bottom line that pierces through the smoke and mirrors of a person’s behavior to see another as he or she truly is.
The bottom line is that you’ve had a superpower all along. You just didn’t realize exactly how powerful it was.
