To her surprise, she is in the midst of a messy divorce, and she has three children. How could Alice forget ten years of her life? When did her marriage fall apart and how could she not remember the birth of her three children? This book is sure to keep you guessing all about what Alice forgot, and will she ever remember?

2. Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson

Every morning, Christine Lucas wakes up with no memories of who she is. Everyday she has to reconstruct her life. She doesn’t know herself, her husband, her son. She learns she has been working with a doctor to reconstruct her memories, writing in a journal to help her reconstruct her life each day. 3. The Twisted Thread by Charlotte Bacon

Armitage Academy is turned upside down when the beautiful Claire Harkness is found dead in her dorm room. As everyone tries to discover how and why Claire is dead, it turns out she was pregnant when she died. Who’s baby is she carrying and how did no one except a few girls know? Told through four different perspectives, this book captivates the reader into this world of privileged students and adults to uncover the truth.

4. The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf

On a quiet August morning, two little girls go missing. Calli is a sweet seven year old who suffers from selective mutism stemming from a tragedy when she was a toddler. Petra, Calli’s best friend (and voice) is missing as well. Calli’s mother begins questioning her decision to stay married to Calli’s father, an absent angry husband. Petra’s father, desperate, discovers a new side of himself he didn’t know existed. What happened to the girls and what secrets will be uncovered in order to find them?

5. The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain

I read this book eight years ago and I still think about it. Instead of posting my own synopsis, I will copy the one from the back of the book (GoodReads).

An unsolved murder.

A missing child.

A lifetime of deception.

In 1977, pregnant Genevieve Russell disappeared. Twenty years later, her remains are discovered and Timothy Gleason is charged with murder. But there is no sign of the unborn child.

CeeCee Wilkes knows how Genevieve Russell died, because she was there. And she also knows what happened to the missing infant, because two decades ago she made the devastating choice to raise the baby as her own. Now Timothy Gleason is facing the death penalty, and she has another choice to make. Tell the truth, and destroy her family. Or let an innocent man die in order to protect a lifetime of lies…

6. Look Again by Lisa Scottoline

Reporter Ellen Gleeson opens her mail to a “Have You Seen This Child?” flyer with the photo of a boy who looks identical to her adopted son, Will. She knows her adoption was lawful, however, as a journalist she wants to discover the truth. Would she give up Will if he really belonged to someone else? What kind of truth will she uncover as she digs for answers?

7. Night Road by Kristin Hannah

Jude Farraday has always put her kids as her top priority. Her twins, Mia and Zach are incredibly close. Lexi moves into town, befriending Mia and eventually falling in love with Zach. The three are inseparable. One summer night, Lexi will lose everything and the Farraday family will be torn apart. What will become of everyone and what will the consequences of that night be?

8. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I’m not even going to include a synopsis. Please, please read the book instead of watch the move. The movie was good, don’t get me wrong, but the book is incredible.
Please read it.

*BONUS:

Liane Moriarty, (What Alice Forgot) is my new favorite author. I wanted to include more by her on this list, but I also wanted to give more options. So, if you read that and like it, you should also read The Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies. They are incredible.
