Although it could fit into my current apartment about four times over, this very small, very green box home actually seems pretty livable. The Cube, a prototype of which was unveiled last month at the Edinburgh Science Festival, is three meters on all sides and has a head height of two meters, creator Dr. Mike Page explains in this video.

Basically, it’s very, very small, with all furniture and appliances designed and selected for a “comfortable, modern existence with a minimum impact on the environment.” The house generates as much energy as it uses, composts or processes all waste, and emits low levels of carbon. Perfect! And since the space is set up with an Ikea-like efficiency, the Cube is, unlike this claustrophobia-inducing Manhattan apartment, actually kind of charming. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
