Racist Oklahoma Fraternity Caught On Video Chanting ‘There Will Never Be A N***er SAE’

There will never be a n***** SAE There will never be a n***** SAE. You can hang 'em from a tree But they'll never (inaudible) with me There will never be a n***** SAE.

Judging from the above video, Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of Oklahoma has a problem with black members. The footage, released yesterday, depicts what appears to be a bus full of SAE fraternity members singing the following song with all of them seeming to know the words.

There will never be a n***** SAE
There will never be a n***** SAE.
You can hang ’em from a tree
But they’ll never (inaudible) with me
There will never be a n***** SAE.

The owner of the YouTube account stated that they released the video to expose the fraternity’s racism.

This is not my video. I am sharing this to get this out there and make a change. This is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s national headquarters moved quickly to close the UoO chapter of the fraternity and released the following statement.

The University of Oklahoma is investigating to see what students were involved in the group chant.

But there’s also this photo that was released of Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s house at Oklahoma State and was posted by the school’s campus newspaper, O’Colly.

SAE’s Oklahoma State chapter has also released a statement on issue of the video but no statement has been released regarding the rebel flag hanging at the Oklahoma State chapter’s house.

Tulsa, Oklahoma is home to the biggest race riot in the history of the state. In 1921, a group of Whites attacked the Black community there, burning down the wealthiest Black neighborhood in the entire country, known then as “Black Wall Street.”

During the 16 hours of the assault, more than 800 people were admitted to local white hospitals with injuries (the two black hospitals were burned down), and police arrested and detained more than 6,000 black Greenwood residents at three local facilities. An estimated 10,000 blacks were left homeless, and 35 city blocks composed of 1,256 residences were destroyed by fire. The official count of the dead by the Oklahoma Department of Vital Statistics was 39, but other estimates of black fatalities vary from 55 to about 300.

Which isn’t to say that the above is in the same ballpark but for those whose knowledge about Oklahoma is limited to ideas of cowboys and their cows it’s background for understanding the type of racial problems the state has had, historically.

Some supporters of Oklahoma State’s SAE chapter were quick to defend the hanging of a Confederate Flag at the frat house and seemingly justified it referencing the Mississippi State flag. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
