Did you ever want Walt Disney and company to explain your period to you? Now, with Disney’s “The Story of Menstruation,” you and Uncle Walt can finally have that period talk you’ve been meaning to have. Produced in 1946, the video was one in a series of educational films that the company produced for schools in the late 1940s to early 50s. Although the film was (unfortunately) never screened for theatrical release, it’s estimated that over 100 million students American students screened this video in their health classes — and probably giggled the whole way through.
The video has since been archived online in the public domain, and you can watch the entire 10-minute video below, in which a woman with an affected Transatlantic accent instructs on how to exercise while bleeding from the vagina. It has to be seen to be believed.
Just remember, ladies: “You have to live with people…Keep smiling and even tempered.” I want that on a bumper sticker.
