Full disclosure: I went to Emerson, and I am one of their queer, liberal, feel-goodery graduates.
One Emerson College fraternity is raising money to help a brother in the frat get Female-to-Male top surgery. Not the usual hazing, binge-drinking, patriarchal actions of a university fraternity. Emerson’s Phi Alpha Tau is raising funds for brother Donnie Collins, a sophomore at the Boston school, to finally have top surgery after his insurance denied him the opportunity to transition. Collins has identified as a male since he was 17 years old, and has covered the cost of the bulk of his hormone therapy since December 2011, according to Out Magazine.
The brothers set up this IndieGogo page for Donnie and they’ve already well exceeded their goal but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind some extra help!

When I was at Emerson, the Student Government approved gender neutral bathrooms to help trans students feel more comfortable peeing in public, and gender neutral housing so that people who wanted to live together could without being forced to live with someone of the same “sex” when you don’t identify as that gender. These changes made me really proud to attend school there.
On their page’s video, the brothers say: “We are here… to tell a story. The story of transformation, the story of self-discovery, and the story of brotherhood.” That’s truly the meaning of brotherhood.
