Facebook Users Rescue Gay Dog At Shelter From Being Put Down

After Gawker reported that a dog abandoned at a shelter because of his gay tendencies was set to be put down, Facebook users and online readers inundated the shelter with phone calls, leading to the dog’s adoption and thus rescue.

An American bulldog mix was left at the Rabies Control animal shelter in Jackson, Mississippi after the owner observed the dog hunched over another male dog. A Facebook user going by “Jackson Madison Rabies Control Stalker” wrote yesterday: “His owner threw him away bc he refuses to have a ‘gay’ dog! Don’t let this gorgeous dog die [because] his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He’s in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!”

According to The Tennessean, Gawker’s coverage led to a flood of calls, and the dog has been adopted. A happy ending to a restore-your-faith-in-humanity story. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
