Kristen Stewart’s Wife Dylan Meyer Cracked Open a Modelo in the Car Leaving Their Movie’s Q&A, Which Is an Open-Container Violation in California

The beer came out the second she got in the car, on the way home from talking up a movie she just put in theaters. Under California law, a passenger sipping an open can is a citable offense.

Meyer wrote and directed “The Wrong Girls,” Neon’s female-led stoner comedy that hit theaters August 14, and she was leaving a Q&A for it at The Grove in Los Angeles when the photos were taken. Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat, who play the film’s codependent best friends, were with her.

California Vehicle Code sections 23221 through 23229 make it illegal to possess or drink from an open alcoholic container in a moving vehicle, and that applies to passengers, not just the driver. A citation is the usual result.

The movie is Meyer’s feature directorial debut, built from a script she started roughly 14 years ago about getting high with her best friend. It’s also the film that first connected her with Stewart, who read an early draft years before the two got together. They married in April 2025 at a Mexican restaurant in Silver Lake.
