The villa can only be reached on foot, tucked so deep into the hillside it reads more like a bunker than a getaway.

The estate George and Amal Clooney went to see sits in one of the most private corners of the Capri coastline, with 360-degree views of the sea, Vesuvius, and Ischia and no road leading to the door.

Villa Bragaglia, also called Villa Camarella, was commissioned in 1942 by Italian director Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, the man who launched Totò’s film career and directed him in six movies, including ‘Totò le Mokò.’ Totò (Antonio De Curtis) spent long stretches there and kept his own bedroom in the house. It’s still preserved with the original iron bed, a painted corner cupboard, and a glass-topped table stacked with his old newspaper clippings. Local legend says he used to throw buckets of water out the window at noisy kids on the path below.

The property is a white Caprese “bunker” buried in a botanical park of more than 150 plant species. Two buildings (an 800-square-meter main house and a 400-square-meter guest house), a Bisazza mosaic pool, a tennis court, Roman artifacts, and period furnishings throughout. It was last publicly listed at around €10 million.

Amal made the walk up in vintage suede Mugler with an Aquazzura bag. George, whose net worth sits around $500 million after the Casamigos sale, already owns the Villa Oleandra complex on Lake Como, reportedly worth north of $100 million. Whether Capri is the next address or just the afternoon’s escape, they put one of Hollywood’s most photographed couples on a hillside path most people never get to climb.
