Linda Nosková Is the Youngest Wimbledon Women’s Champion Since Petra Kvitová in 2011
Linda Nosková is 21 years old, and she just won Wimbledon. It’s her first Grand Slam title, and no woman younger has lifted the trophy in 15 years.
Czech Republic vs. Czech Republic: the first all-Czech singles final in Grand Slam history, and Linda Nosková came out of it with the Wimbledon title.
The 9th seed, 21 years old, beat Karolína Muchová 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 on Centre Court for her first Grand Slam.
The second set is what people will replay. Nosková built a 5-2 lead and held five championship points. Muchová saved every one of them, ripped off five games in a row, and stole the set 7-5.
The decider flipped again. Nosková broke back, pushed out to 5-2, and set up match point by dragging Muchová corner to corner before finishing with an ace. She closed it out on her sixth match point of the day, dropped to her back on the grass, then pulled a towel over her head in the player box.
Muchová dropped her racket in tears at the net but stayed gracious, calling Nosková her “ex-friend” in her runner-up speech while praising her. Catherine, Princess of Wales, presented the trophy as the ball kids formed a guard of honour.
