Rob Reiner Received a Posthumous Emmy Nomination for ‘the Bear,’ Nearly 7 Months After He and His Wife Were Found Dead in Their Home

By

On July 8, the Television Academy nominated him for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for “The Bear” Season 4, where he played Albert Schnurr, a restaurant consultant brought in to mentor Ebraheim. It’s his first acting nomination in decades. The ceremony is set for September 14.

The recognition comes nearly seven months after Reiner, 78, and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood home on December 14. The L.A. County Medical Examiner ruled both deaths homicides. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, pleaded not guilty in February, and remains in custody as the case continues.

Rob Reiner spent 5 decades building one of the most recognizable careers in Hollywood, first as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on “All in the Family,” then as the director behind “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “Stand By Me,” and “This Is Spinal Tap.” He won two Emmys as an actor in the 1970s.

“The Bear” aired its fourth season after Reiner’s death. His children Jake and Romy called their parents their “best friends” in a statement after their deaths. The season closed with a nod to “As you wish,” the signature line from “The Princess Bride,” which he directed.
