Why Is Bailey So Visibly Angry and Upset with Ben At The Summer House Reunion? What Did He Do?
Is Bailey Taylor justified in being this upset with Ben Waddell? The reunion exchange split viewers, so it’s worth looking at what he actually did versus what she’s accusing him of.
The only direct incident between them this season happened in Episode 6, after Amanda’s birthday dinner.
During the group’s “say one nice thing about Amanda” round, Ben started complimenting her “big eyes and a smile.” Bailey cut in with a joke, the second time she’d made it: “Ben’s gonna talk about how he definitely wants to sleep with you.” She was referencing the group’s running Italy skinny-dipping story, and she said it in front of Kyle.
After dinner, Ben went to Bailey’s bedroom and pulled her aside privately. He told her the comment was rude, not funny, and to never say it again. His tone was stern and lecture-style. He kept pressing her on what her deal was and where her head was at.
Bailey apologized in the moment and explained it was just a joke off the group’s running story. She said the delivery felt like being reprimanded, and it triggered memories of her abusive ex yelling at her. A mic caught her breaking down in the bathroom afterward.
That’s the only confrontation between them that aired all season. In Episode 7, they had to kiss during a spin-the-bottle game, and Ben apologized for being so harsh the night before. They moved on. No further drama between just the two of them.
So what was the reunion speech actually about?
Bailey wasn’t relitigating that one room talk. She was calling out a pattern she sees in how Ben talks to women in the house in general. Her central claim: “You like to reprimand women. That is your problem.”
On Sabrina, Ben’s girlfriend: “Sabrina is exquisite. I think she can do better than you.” She told Ben he talks to Sabrina “like s—t” and that she’d watched it happen on camera all season.
Then the double standard: “When you talk to Kyle, you look like you’re gonna make out with him, no matter how in the wrong he is.” With women, she said, it’s always a lecture.
She also pointed to Ben firmly confronting Amanda after Amanda made a joke to Sabrina about everyone thinking Ben was in love with Amanda. Ben told Amanda it was unnecessary, that it had thrown Sabrina off, and that it made things awkward for his relationship.
Ben’s defense at the reunion was that he and Bailey barely knew each other, and that he treated Amanda “like one of the guys.” Bailey wasn’t buying it. Lindsay said something like, “I feel like we’ve unlocked something,” and the cast looked stunned.
So here’s the honest read: Bailey did say something pretty out of pocket at the dinner table in front of everyone. Fans are split on whether he was setting a reasonable boundary after an inappropriate joke, or whether the delivery came off condescending. Bailey then took that one incident and built it into a bigger thesis about how he talks to every woman in the house.
Sabrina update: Part 1 of the reunion just aired, and as of right now Sabrina has not posted or commented publicly on Bailey’s accusations or Ben’s tone. She and Ben are still together and have been posting normal positive couple content, but nothing addressing the reunion yet.
