A Prayer For God’s Help In Controlling Your Temper
We are reminded that our reactions shape whether we respond with frustration or grace when we invite God into our struggles, as shown in Karin Hadadan’s prayer. Similarly, Rebecca Simon’s Finding God Every Day offers guidance for building daily habits that cultivate peace and patience.
There are times when our patience feels thin, and even small things can easily trigger frustration in us. Those moments can be a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and ask God for the self-control to respond with patience instead of reacting in anger. Take a moment to pray with me.
Dear God,
Lately, I’m struggling to be patient and my temper has a grip on me. Everything and everyone is getting under my skin, leading me to act in ways that divert from your character. But I want to thank you for being patient with me, even though I’m struggling to be patient with myself and others.

I come to you asking for help with self-control—allow me to pause before reacting, observe without immediately responding, and feel without retaliating. Help me reflect your character through emotional discipline so that I can commit to choosing patience over quick reactions. Remind me that it is better to control my temper than to conquer external battles. I trust that each moment I pause and choose self-control, the better I can serve others and honor you.
Amen.
