A Prayer To See People As They Are, Not As You Hope They’ll Be

By

Finding peace starts with surrendering our worries to the universe and trusting that God’s guidance will meet us in the middle of our uncertainty. Best-selling author of Finding God Every Day, Rebecca Simon, reminds us to trust God’s timing, embrace patience, and lean on His presence through every season of life.

Love doesn’t rewrite reality. And holding onto who someone could be will keep you stuck longer than accepting who they are.

God,

Sometimes I hold onto people not for who they are, but for who I believe they could become. I fill in the gaps with hope. I overlook what is clear because I want the outcome to be different. But you see the truth without confusion.

Today, I ask you to help me see clearly, God.

Remove the filters I’ve placed over people. Help me accept what is being shown to me instead of rewriting it in my mind. Give me the honesty to acknowledge patterns, the wisdom to trust what I’m noticing, and the strength to respond accordingly.

If someone is not able to meet me where I am, help me stop expecting them to. If I am holding onto potential instead of reality, gently bring me back to what is true.

God, I don’t want to stay attached to potential. I want to be aligned with what is real, what is consistent, and what is healthy.

Teach me to see clearly, and to choose wisely because of it.

Amen.
