DC Fans Weigh In on the DCEU’s Many Failures

Why does the DCEU keep striking out? DC fans have some ideas.
Over the last decade, comic book movies have taken Hollywood by storm. Franchise films are the cinematic standard (and most-likely recipients of box office triumph), but the DC Extended Universe has failed to garner the same critical and box office success as its Marvel counterpart (the Marvel Cinematic Universe). While some DC films boast strong ticket sales, they face critical condemnation. Other DCEU films, like the recent Blue Beetle — which currently boasts a solid 76% critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes — receive critical praise but fail to get butts in seats. So, fans have taken to Twitter to discuss (and try to explain) the franchise’s past and current failings.
DC fans need to step up and support new movies
There's a DC movie coming out this Friday and real DC fans are crying on Twitter about Superman killing Zod and why didn't he let Zod murder millions of innocent people. And they wonder why DCEU movies are flopping one after another😭 pic.twitter.com/ldC99ZOU7U

Does the DCEU need Zack Snyder to come back?
DCeu movies are succeeding critically now, getting 90+ ratings but struggling to even break even at the box office. On the other hand, critics hated the SnyderVerse but none of those movies were a failure.
Yes, DC needs the hype man aka Zack Snyder back. pic.twitter.com/MWRvBlsumd

If the Warner Bros had not destroyed it's own chances at success, the DCEU would have been the greatest live action cinematic universe ever. #RestoreTheSnyderVerse @wbd pic.twitter.com/4oHEO0rz3I

People blame Snyder for the DCEU’s failure; Is it his fault?

Yes, blame Snyder for the fact they've only been able to top his DCEU box office once and each time have had diminishing returns on Snyderless movies despite numerous "course corrections" over the last 7 years. Yep, definitely Snyder's fault. https://t.co/aiAevle4se pic.twitter.com/YUH902WB51

TBH, Man Of Steel was a very decent (Decent doesn't = Perfect Masterpeice) movie (ON IT'S OWN) but BvS and the DCEU afterwards just went down the flusher… I'm sorry but Zack Snyder doesn't understand DC or it's characters https://t.co/LSOWRKVCWb pic.twitter.com/bgT6eip7Eg

DC films got lighter, sacrificing their original dark flair in the process
Erm, people liked the DCEU until after Aquaman. They then started to realise that the tone of the movies were changing (to be lighter & comedic), which they clearly weren't interested in.
Hence the first 6 movies being in the top ten highest grossing DC movies. pic.twitter.com/AfSpasl8rb— Restore ZSJL (@restoreZSJL) August 19, 2023
Maybe the mystical was the way to go
The DCEU should've kept going with the mythical approach. pic.twitter.com/XxxjWxDxDU

Can James Gunn turn the ship around?
Do you guys think James Gunn DCEU will be better than Snyderverse? pic.twitter.com/Yp7EBIQtkp

Stop comparing DC movies to Marvel ones
We as DC fans have to get out of this mindset of needing to compare to the MCU. That thought process is what sunk the DCEU in the first place. https://t.co/Ul1LmAZLCj

Did DC start to copy Marvel, destroying its chances at individual success?
It's refreshing to see a writer still care if the humor fits the characters. The MCU has spread this horrible believe that it doesn't matter as long as you make the audience laugh. It leads to bad writing.
Then the DCEU copied it and ruined films like The Flash.#indiecomics https://t.co/KKUJIDXlmr— Pepe Lacroix (@LacroixPepe) August 21, 2023
