You Can’t Control Your Feelings, But You Can Always Control Your Actions
You should let yourself experience all of your emotions and stop telling yourself constantly what you should and shouldn’t feel; it’s not something that’s in your hands.
You can’t keep on fighting your own feelings and telling yourself that you shouldn’t have them in the first place. I hope you stop telling yourself that you shouldn’t miss them or love them anymore. Let me tell you something: You are not a machine, and there is no magical button to press that will suddenly stop making you feel what you feel. You are a human. You can’t just force yourself into unloving someone. This isn’t how things work.
You should let yourself experience all of your emotions and stop telling yourself constantly what you should and shouldn’t feel; it’s not something that’s in your hands. It’s not something that you can control. Yes, you can decide not to act upon your feelings, but you can’t control not feeling them.
You should accept your feelings and just embrace them. So, if you miss someone, then let yourself miss them. And if you still love them, so let yourself love them. You don’t need to call them or text them or get back with them, but you can just let your feelings be. You can quit blaming yourself for feeling these feelings. You can start to accept the fact that this is not something that you get a say in.
You can give yourself time to see how your feelings will change, to see how life can work its magic and help you out. You can be gentle with yourself and not be that person who is in a constant internal struggle because they can’t wrap their heads around the idea that after everything, they still feel this way towards someone. You can try to accept your feelings just the way they are.
I hope you try to be more understanding towards yourself. I hope you can be less harsh with and less judgmental towards yourself, even if you don’t always want to feel what you are feeling. But this is just how things are, and I hope that you realize this instead of constantly beating yourself up for the way you feel.
I hope you truly stop telling yourself and others what not to feel and know that you can’t control your feelings but you can always control your actions.
